Microsoft Morro

Microsft is getting ready to release Morro which is its free antivirus software for its Windows operating systems. A trial version or public beta will be available soon but no specific date has been released.

Morro may hurt the sales of its comptetitors, McAfee and Symantec antivirus softwares. “It’s a long-term competitive threat,” said Daniel Ives who is an analyst with FBR Capital Markets.

It is designed to prevent viruses, spyware, rootkits, trojans, and other malicious software to run or enter a user’s computer.

“Microsoft’s free product is basically a stripped down version of the OneCare product Microsoft pulled from the shelves,” said Janice Chaffin of Symantec.
